Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement
Prepared for review by the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Working Group
11th October 2023
Global Dialogue was founded to promote human rights, equality and diversity for the public benefit, and our new mission statement – Global Dialogue partners with philanthropy to advance rights, equity and diversity – renews this commitment.
Darvaja, a collective grounded in justice and transformation, led a review of diversity, equity and inclusion at Global Dialogue in 2022 which ran alongside our recent strategy development process. The review engaged staff and stakeholders through an anonymous survey and a series of critical listening sessions, and then held facilitated group conversations to explore the emerging findings.
We learnt that staff and stakeholders believe in Global Dialogue’s mission, values and efficacy; that there is a strong commitment to improving diversity, equity and inclusion; and that the organisation has potential to drive meaningful change in the philanthropy sector. They recommended four areas for further work: a learning programme; a view of our strategic framework through the lens of antiracism and decolonial practice; a cross-organisational working group to oversee the creation and implementation of a plan to improve our practice; and the establishment of an external monitoring mechanism.
The trustees accept these recommendations, have established a working group of trustees and staff and will commit resources to support their implementation. Over the next three years we aim to develop an organisational approach that is consistent with our mission, endeavoring to centre rights, equity and diversity in our operations; and in time we will become more visibly active in pursuing that mission to promote rights, equity and diversity in philanthropy. We will report on our progress here on our website, and in our Annual Report.
